The European Parliament voted to in favor of the Paris climate agreement. The purpose is to create an international plan the will help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. Countries are now signing the agreement, but two requirements were set in order for the agreement to go into full effect. 55 countries are needed to ratify and theses countries must account for 55% of the greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, there are 62 countries that signed which are producing 52% of the gases. The Paris agreement is bound to be in affect soon; however, there are still many issues regarding how each country is going to reduce their emissions.
This is one of the most important agreements that the world's nations can come to. It is similar to the Kyoto and Montreal protocols because the nations are cooperating to save the world from an unpleasant future. The carbon dioxide levels reached 400 ppm and we are approaching the tipping point of 450 ppm. With the help of this agreement, it is possible to save the world from greenhouse gases just like it was saved from chlorofluorocarbons previously.
