Scott Pruitt, Oklahoma's attorney general, has been nominated by president Donald Trump to be the head of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) despite his disagreeable beliefs. Pruitt seems to pay no attention to the idea that hydraulic fracking in Oklahoma is one of the major causes for the increased earthquakes. Besides "ignoring" the issue of earthquakes, Pruitt also sued the EPA several times because of their constant intrusion on state rights. He worked with several energy companies that use fossil fuels and natural gases in order to fight the increasing regulations the State of Oklahoma set. He believes that the regulations should be removed in order to make revenue for the state and his solution to the increasing earthquake is preventing the increase of prices for earthquake insurance.
I am sad to say that he is likely to become the head of the EPA. One of the most influential departments in protecting the environment is a climate change denier and ignorant to the future of the people in his state. Putting people in risk of earthquakes is already a problem and then making them feel safe by purchasing earthquake insurance is even a bigger problem. The purpose of the EPA is to protect the people from environmental issues such as contaminated water and polluted air because the lives of people matter. What seems important to Pruitt is that businesses and profit matter instead of the people.
