President-elect trump has made clear his attitudes and plans towards climate change. So how did Trump become the president of the U.S.? The answer is quite simple, republicans voted republicans and democrats voted democrats. In the end, Trump won the electoral vote despite losing the popular vote. According to his plan, there is going to be a massive reverse in the progress of containing carbon and pollution in general. The energy page of Trump’s official presidential transition website focuses on extracting and burning lots and lots of fossil fuels and scrapping Obama’s climate plans. The first has already been taken as Trump elected Myron Ebell, a climate denier, as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
I find it extremely concerning that Trump is surrounding himself with people who share his opinions. This means that there can not be any outside influences that can easily sway his plans and opinions. Despite his stubbornness and hasty actions, I believe that the public is able to influence the laws concerning the environment and climate change. We can appoint lobbyist for several interest groups and even encourage republican officials who secretly believe in global warming. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2016/nov/14/on-trump-and-climate-america-is-split-in-two-by-these-demographics |
