Grass crops are getting challenged by the climate change we are facing. The research team from the university of Arizona stated that the climate is changing about 1000 times faster than the grass plants can adapt. Grass crops are considered major food resource for our population. The grass crops facing an uncertain future include wheat, corn, rice and sorghum, which provide almost half of the calories consumed by human. If these crops to survive, then the whole human population is going to suffer hunger and malnutrition. It is stated that the crops might not go extinct, but would not grow in certain areas of produce as efficiently. |
The lack of food resources for the possible future is determined by our actions today. We can slow down the climate change now or find new resources of food later. Scientists already found that grasslands can be domesticated to be the new food sources, but is that a viable option. I think not because people are always complaining about GMOs even thought they yield great harvests. I can not imagine how people would feel about modifying new crops to become a staple. http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-37489916 |
