A group of US veterans vowed to prevent the completion of the Dakota access pipeline despite the order given to the army. This group managed to raise about 37,000 dollars on GoFundMe in just a week. Besides these veterans stood the Sioux tribe, which also vowed to mount a legal challenge against the corps. The tribes main purpose for opposing the construction of this pipeline is the fact that it passes beneath the tribe's source of water. The Sioux are also suspicious of the reason behind Trump's executive action because Trump's financial disclosure shows that he owns shares of Energy Transfer Partners, the company in charge of building the access line. The veteran's believe human life and the environment must be protected and that is driving them towards helping protesting activists as well.
I truly hope that the Dakota access pipeline would be prevented from completion because it is just another example of environmental discrimination. The minority (the tribe) is at risk of losing one of the fundamental necessities for life. There is a concern that the Trump administration will ignore any of the leaks or flaws that the pipeline can bring if completed because their actions with the flint crisis are near non-existent. These laws and reaction to environmental hazards clearly displays the lack of concern to public safety and specifically the minorities.
